‘FLIGHT SCHOOL’ is an interactive workshop that focuses on 'forces’ and is closely aligned with the National Science and Technology Curriculum.

The workshop has been designed in consultation with teachers and engages students to think critically and problem solve. Students are exposed to procedural literacy activities, as well as basic geometry. It is a social activity that guarantees a fun and educational experience for the whole class.

Topics covered.

 
  • The four forces of flight (gravity, lift, drag and thrust).

  • The principles of 'lift' and altering wing-shape to affect different flight outcomes.

  • Dihedral and angle of attack (and their importance to smooth/efficient flight).

  • The history of human flight.

  • Flight in nature (adaptations) and uses in conventional aircraft.

  • Tutorials of 2-3 paper plane designs.

  • Group throwing activity or competition.
